DON'T BLINK!

Please...I am telling you .

Don't blink.

I did.

My first child, my baby boy, my little Chase man, he turned 12 today.

How did that happen?

It really doesn't seem possible.

I swear it was just yesterday that I brought my baby home.

He was the most beautiful baby I had ever seen.

I was so scared.

I had never been a mommy before.

I had so many questions and so many concerns.

Chase did not seem to notice that I was nervous.

I must have blinked that day.

Before I knew it he was not a baby anymore. He had loads of energy. He loved reptiles. He started preschool. He loved to go "gishing" with his daddy. He never slept.

Another blink and Chase learned to sleep in his own bed. He finally learned to sleep. Period. He continued to amaze us with his endless energy.

One more blink and he was playing ball. Namely, baseball and basketball. He loved it. He still does. He even converted his non-sports minded mom to get excited about ballgames. Especially the ones he played in.

Somehow my rambunctious, messy little toddler turned into a well mannered, funny, athletic, self motivated, surface neat tween.

Somewhere between 1996 and 2008 my baby grew up and I almost did not see it happen. So I am warning you ...don't blink. If you see me on the street this week, I will be the girl with her eyelids propped up by toothpicks. (So as not to blink again!)

I may not have a 12 year old, with my oldest only 4 1/2...but still, all I have to say is... AMEN.

Happy Birthday, little Chase man! :)

Sadly it does happen so fast!
But all we can do it continue to teach them the right things and watch to see if they use the tools they've been given.I know I'm not looking forward to the tween years!
Chase is such a sweet young man and I hope he had the best day!!!!

Happy Birthday to Chase!
I saw your comment on on Motherhood for Dummies about your chicken Tostada recipe and it sounds great! If you post it on your recipe blog, can you let me know? Thanks!

OK so I open your blog just now and look at it and start crying. Not sure if it was the song, the fact that I too remember when Chase was born 12 years ago!! Happy Birthday Chase. OR was it the pictures of Grandpa. Yeap thats it, since I started crying again.:)

Hope Chase had a great birthday. He doesn't even look like what I remember him looking like. After church, Patrick's dad even joked that he thought they had made a mistake today and thought, well, Chase is only 6 years old, what are they doing? ha ha... Good seeing you today.

So true, I remember the first time I saw a picture of this beautiful little baby boy who had just become my newest nephew when I join the Howard family. I was so proud to have such an adorable nephew that I carried his picture in my wallet and showed it to everyone. He is such a great boy, and to this day I am still proud to call him my nephew!

I am beginning to understand. It is all bitter sweet.

I have not blinked at all while reading your post and typing this comment and my eyes are dry.

Opps. Just blinked.

I can't really truly understand don't blink since my daughter is only 5 months...but it already has gone by super fast. I can't even imagine how fast it is going to seem when she is in high school
