I HAVE CREATED A MONSTER!

My nine-going-on-thirty year old daughter asked me a few weeks ago if she could have a blog.

I laughed.

Heartily.

Because that is not. going. to. happen.

Until of course she *IS* thirty.

Then I will think about it.

I mean what would she write about?

That band of "nekkid" brothers?

What she ate for breakfast?

What teacher gives the most homework?

Sound exciting?

I thought so.

I would like to play it "safe" and not go there.

This weekend she has asked me 517 times if she could have her own email address.

I told her 516 times, "no".

On the 517 time, I caved.

I gave in.

Mostly to stop the harassment.

And to keep her mind off the whole blog thing.

I think I actually mumbled, "Fine" in my in-and-out-of-sleep-almost-napping state.

She ran with it.

She had a Gmail account set up in minutes.

She had a sidebar with contacts.

She had invited her friends to CHAT.

She had pictures of her friends by their contact information.

I was impressed with her ability to navigate the computer.

I was also a little scared.

This morning when I got up, Claire was already on the computer.

I walked into the room to check on her.

She was giggling.

I looked at the computer screen.

I looked again.

Claire was having an online chat with MY girlfriend.

What?

How did this happen?

When I asked her about it she replied,
"Oh, this is the second friend of yours I have chatted with this morning."

Pardon?

Come again?

Apparently if your green light is "ON" ....you are fair game.

Let this be a warning.

If you and I have corresponded via Gmail there is a huge possibility that you are on Claire's contact list.

If your green light is on, you may get an invitation to chat.

From Claire.

Please try to keep your conversations to a minimum.

This is really cutting into my "Blogging" time.

I am now reconsidering the whole "I-need-a-blog" thing.

At least I could make it private.

And not have to share my friends.

That is too funny - mainly because my 7 yr. old asked me about having her own blog last week. Who are the girls these days? Growing up way too fast.
Good luck with getting in some blogging time.

That is hilarious.

And, I am so not ready for my daughter to ask something like that!

Going to make self invisible on gmail right now....

Haha! I had not thought of what will happen when Karys is old enough to ask me stuff like this. Fortunately I have many years before I have to figure that out.

So basically, on your computer, all is fair in blog & email? Too funny!

Wendi!! That is so funny!! I think I am on your gmail chat, right? If I see a message from you, then it could be Claire? Oh boy! I think you and I will have to have a secret codeword.

Gmail Chat:

Wendi: Hi

McMommy: I need our secret codeword before I can chat with you

Wendi: Um? Hannah Montana?

McMommy: HA!! I KNEW IT WAS YOU, CLAIRE!!!

hee hee

sorry for the three-act play on your comments.

HA! My eight year old SD is better on the computer than I am sometimes, I swear. She has her own email as well. Luckily, I don't think she really knows how to use it all that well. I'll keep it that way for as long as humanly possible!!! LOL

That's so funny.

My daughter is 8 and has a blog. It helps her practice typing.

I don't think I will mention this post to my 9 year old daughter! It was bad enough when she loved Webkinz and was on that site all the time!

If she gets her own email, I may need to get a laptop!

That amazes me! I can barely upload or is it download pictures onto my blog...I still haven't picked a template besides the ones that blogger offers (but, I did finally figure out how to change the color scheme....I know, I'm just on fire, aren't I?) Claire is so computer savvy! I am totally impressed :) Maybe you should let her have a blog so that she could give me tips ;)

sign of the times. my 7 year old has had email since he was born... long story... but once he started using it i'd say it lasted all of a week and he got bored. best of luck...

ps - give in the blog, you never know it could pay for college.

Too funny. My 10 year old finally talked me into letting her have a blog. I had total editorial control and nothing got put onto it without my approval.

It ran its course and she doesn't want to do it much anymore.

The chatting with your friends is hilarious.

My 12 year old sister is my go-to person for any cell phone or computer issues I have. I could go to my dad, since he's the computer coordinator for the school district, but she knows more!

Oh man... THAT is funny.

Good things I have 3 kids that can't read.

Too funny! Of course, I won't be laughing in about, say, 6 years when who only knows what the technology will be!

Hmmm, I didn't even know that gMail had a chat feature . . . that right there says something!

I'm learning (and fairly well, if I do say so myself) to navigate myself through blogdom and she's so much farther ahead of me!

MH has an email account. We don't use it, but DH thought it would be cool to get her an account with her name now. She's gotten a couple of emails from Sweetheart and Poppy, but is otherwise content to check her email alongside me using her Fisher Price LaughTop computer. Pretty cute!

That is so funny! I bet her "chatting" is hilarious.

Am I last??

So SO SO SO sorry friend that it has taken so long for me to get here!

Can I just say oh no! Are you kidding? Chatting with some of your contacts??

Is this what I have to look forward too?

I never considered that they would want to do it to?

My. My head is spinning.

Let us know if she starts her own blog. How funny would that be. WOW! :)

Way to go Claire! Tell your sweet mom to let you go to my blog and click on my grandchildren's blogs. My little dancer Lonica is 9. Her brother Johnny is 11. My E.J. is also 9. They have a lot to say. If you do get a blog just be very careful to never give out any clues that would let people who are not nice know your personal information.I vote for you to get a blog but don't tell your mommy I said so or she might not let me be her cyber grammy any more. LOve, Grammy

Hey Wendi! Thanks for stopping by today- love your blog too - I'm so glad we "met"! My 10 yr old daughter asked for a blog, and I gave in because I thought it was cute that she wanted to be like me - and it's way better than MySpace. I don't have her site open to the whole blogosphere - just her friends.

OMG, so funny!!! What a little smarty she is! Thankfully my three are still too young - but I'm guessing that will be in my future, lol. The four year old is already pretty good on our Wii, I'm guessing that's a first step :-)

This would be funny if it wasn't too close to home. My 9 yr old is driving me nuts to set up an email account--right now they go to me. I am so not ready for this!

I am a slow reader, aren't I?
