Fourth Grade Field Trip (Part 2)

Shaking and shivering we left The Lost Colony.

We only drove a few miles down the road before we came to our next stop.

The Wright Brothers Museum.

The greatest part?

It was warm.

After warming up running amuck touring the museum we headed outside to the bitter cold.

The Lost Colony was warm in comparison.

Do you see that memorial off in the distance?

Way off in the distance?

Like 3,000 miles in the distance?

Yup, we walked up hill against the ferocious winds that were stinging our faces.

I would like to personally thank Elaine for getting me started on my running program.

I am not sure if my endurance could have handled it otherwise.

We got to the top, snapped a few photos and then wouldn't you know it?

They wanted us to walk back down.

I looked for a ski lift or a complimentary golf cart.

No such luck.

So we began our descent.

Which eventually became a slow jog.

Which turned into a sprint to the finish line.

The finish line being the tour buses.

Which were heated and housed my blankets.

Our next stop?

The Artic Zone Jockey's Ridge.

to be continued...

The part where you said "wouldn't you know it they made us walk back down"?

Yeah, that cracked me up! Why is it that always happens once you accomplish something?!

ahhh yes, wrights brothers. I have a picture by every single stone sign, ya know where the landed, took off, landed again. My Dad LOVES to read all of them. It was madness!

I LOVE jockey's ridge!! We had sooo much fun there! But it was summer. And there were huge pools of water from the storm at the bottom to cool off in. I can imagine if it was cold AND windy..you were in trouble! Im anxiously awaiting the next segment!!

You ought to write in to somebody about the ski lift idea. :)

And from your previous post, yes, I've been on a bus with 4th graders...but not for 3 hours!!! Yikes!!! Love the Clue analogy...so true. haha :)

Omgoodness. I feel for you. Couldn't this trip have been done in Sept or May??

Please tell me you didn't have to hike up that huge sand dune.

Field trips are the best, aren't they?! (Please tell me you heard my sarcastic tone.)

What? No complimentary golf cart with blankets and hot cocoa? I thought you were going to say your next stop was a bar, but maybe that's what Jockey's Ridge is. I'll just wait and see.....

November = indoor fieldtrips. Oh wait. We just spent our weekend in the snowy mountains.

Perhaps just bring down jackets?

Ah, thanks for the shout out! And so glad it helped while on your field trip! : )

I HATE to be cold, I can only imagine. I would have stayed in the bus myself!

P.S. Come check out what I left for you at my place!

That IS one long walk from the Museum to the memorial. Good for you for tackling it with Mommy coolness.
