About six months ago, Cole was still struggling with pronouncing the letter "f".
All of his "f's" came out "w's".
For example.
On the end of his hand were his "wingers".
He put his shoe on his "woot".
He loved to go "wishing" on the boat with his Dad.
His favorite thing to eat with his nuggets is "wench wies".
Well, you get where I am going with this.
At first I thought it was cute and I would repeat his precious words.
And giggle.
My mother told me to stop encouraging him to speak incorrectly.
She is usually right.
The next time he asked me to get him some "whoood" instead of food, I corrected him.
" Yes, Cole I would be happy to get you some food".
Sometimes he would try to repeat what I had said and sometimes he wouldn't.
When he was 3 1/2 I knew he should not still be transposing the letters.
I made sure when he said, " I want to go wishing " I would get down on his level and say, "FA FA FA fishing".
"Fa Fa Fa fishing", he would repeat back to me.
"Great Cole... great job!", I would encourage.
One day he was trying to explain something to me about what he wanted for lunch.
I tried to make out what he was saying.
It was slurred and unrecognizable.
He could see the puzzled look on my face.
After the fifth attempt to help me understand , he grabbed my hand, pulled me down to his level, put both hands on either side of my face and with all the seriousness of a 3 1/2 year old he said, " Repeat after me Mommy, FA FA FA sandwich".
(Sorry Mom. I couldn't help but laugh.)

Ok, doing what I do all day (speech therapy) that is HILARIOUS! I completely understand what you are saying though. We have so many kids like that. Hopefully he will break this habit, just keep letting him know the correct way to say things!
Good Luck!
Oh my goodness! Out of the mouth of Babes! Is he the cutest little thing or what!
LOVE IT!
I just emailed you instructions about the other "thing". Sorry, today I have been slammed with fighting kids! Ay yi yi!
This is just too cute. Cole knows how to get you to understand. Hey it is lunch time here. I bet my little Austin would like a fafafa-sandwich too. I'd better get busy. Have a fafafa-fun day.
What a gem he is. We have funny speech patterns here too. My daughter can't say her hard /c/ sound (ck), so "kitty" sounds like "titty." Gotta laugh at that.
Great story!
Thanks for the laugh!
Loved that sweet story. Wunny little Cole.
You made me laugh! :D
Let me re-pay the favor. Go here to see an old guy surfing.

I can so see him putting his hands on each side of your face and saying that!!
He's sooooo cute!!
Cute story!
That is SO stinking funny.. "wunny"! :)
lol... out of the mouth of babes. TOO CUTE!
Hahahaha!!! I LOVE him!!
I, too, have a speech therapy background and absolutely love baby talk (that's a huge no-no!). But it is adorable. And the fact that they think they get it right and YOU are the one who is "phonetically challenged" is even more precious. Go Cole man!

Oh.my.gosh! That was so adorable! Such a great story!
Sorry "Princess" that I had to delete your comment. I LOVED hearing your story about how cute your toddler was when he was learning to say his words. It really was quite funny. Glad to hear as well, that I was not the only one encountering problems. Unfortunately, my two oldest can read really well now, and can be found reading their mama's blog. Since, I am trying to keep that word from use, ever in this house, I had to delete your comment. I appreciate your use of "***", but I am sure they could figure it out. Please feel free to comment often. I hope I did not offend you, just this Mama trying to protect her kids.
That made me laugh outloud, I didn't see that coming! VERY cute.
My Darling Daughter (who is now 13) used to pronounce Root Beer as Root Burt. (??) I still tend to say Root Burt and she gets SO ANNOYED with me. (which makes it all worthwhile..) (Did I really say that??)
