I CAN DO IT BY MYSELF!

This morning Cole wanted to do everything by himself.

He insisted on picking out his own clothes.

He insisted on dressing himself.

He insisted on making his own breakfast. (with a little help)

He insisted on picking out his snacks for preschool.

He insisted on packing his lunchbox.

He insisted on brushing his own hair.

He had lots of "wild hair" this morning.

I suggested he spray a little detangler to help control some of the wayward strands.

He agreed.

He wanted to be left alone while he coiffed it into place.

When I returned this is what he looked like.

I could not help the laughter that ensued.

It was uncontrollable.

Here, look at the side view.

Pretty funny.

I am not sure if he will set any trends at school today.

No, I did not let him go out like that.

I re-combed it.

I wish I could be THAT Mom who would let her child go to school with his own "style".

I haven't been able to do that yet.

I reminded him on the way out the door not to forget his lunchbox.

Guess what greeted me when I returned from preschool?

He still needs me!

To comb his hair and get his lunchbox anyway.

Wendi, that is the sweetest story!! Such a perfect juxtaposition of how our little ones are trying out their wings, but still need the Mama Bird!! :)

What a cute post.... and what a cute kid ..Has he mentioned wanting to be a hair stylist when he grows up? Mine needs redone. Maybe I could drop by for an appointment.

That is just too cute!

I love that he wanted to do everything himself. So nice, and ultra-frustrating all at the same time.

Glad to hear that you are still needed, at least for hair combing. :)

It looks like a Donald Trump hair-do. :)

I know what you mean about being THAT Mom. I struggle when my husband dresses the kids and it's just not quite right ... and I try to bite my tongue (but I'm not very good at that). :)

Bravo little Cole.

He is so cute. He just needs a little practice with the product.

HAHAH, I love it.. I was laughing so hard. He is so darn cute! I think he would have been the coolest kid in preschool with a hairdo like that. Thanks for a good laugh!!

Awwwwww, bless his heart! He wants to be a big boy :) It does my heart good that my boys still need me, too.

The hair was pretty hilarious...it kind of looked like a, "male pattern balding comb-over", huh?

I know I always say this but you are such a clever and witty writer!

I laughed out loud today when I read your comment on Christie's blog about the mohawk...I loved how you asked when her husband goes to sleep....heh, heh, heh

Looks like little Cole man may have inherited some hairstyling finesse from his maternal ancestors! Way cute! Take it from an older mom, as much as I want to scream some days when the kids and dad are calling you in unison, I miss being able to do things for the one who is away and out of reach. Guess they are filling that need we as mothers have to give and do and repeat the process forever.

See! This is what I miss!! I would without a doubt take them and give you a break! I could even send my boys to you and let you see what's ahead. Cute little boys become cute HAIRY men. Ugh!! I love em though. ha!

Ah yes, the independence phase...we are most definitely going through that with Julia. Major MAJOR temper tantrum at church a couple of weeks ago b/c she had to open her own door. Well William was trying to be a gentleman and open the door for everyone. So I make him close it, only to discover that the door is simply too heavy for a 2-year old to open herself. Didn't even make it to the chapel for about 15 minutes. Had to go have a major tantrum in the bathroom. She must turn the pages in the books we read, she must pick out her own clothes, etc. It goes on and on...I feel your pain!!

I think his hair was pretty stylin' but I see where he could have caused a riot with his cool new style if you had allowed it...:-)

I loved this post! It is so bittersweet when they start to become more and more independent. But, then, it feels so good to me, when I realise that she really does need me.

That hairsyle was not that bad really. Way to be independant. But he still needs you to help him remember his lunch , ha ha!

Very cute post!
